The stone is only part of the story. Its finish changes the way light moves across it, how its pattern reads, and how the surface feels beneath your hand.
Polished: a little more light.
A polished surface reflects its surroundings and can bring out the depth of a stone’s colour and pattern. Consider how it will sit with windows, pendants and other reflective materials in your room.
Honed: a softer expression.
A honed surface has a matte or low-sheen appearance. The effect is often quieter, giving natural movement a softer presence. It can be a useful starting point when you want the texture and colour of stone without a strong reflection.
Brushed: character you can touch.
A brushed finish introduces texture. The result varies with the material, so it is especially helpful to see and touch a physical sample. Look at the surface from different angles and consider how its texture suits the way you use your space.
Make the practical part personal.
Ask your supplier about the care, sealing and daily cleaning needs of the specific stone and finish you are considering. Two stones with the same finish may behave differently. A photograph is a beginning; a sample and the full slab help complete the picture.
